50 Years Independence Cabo Verde, 2025
In 2025, communities across the world celebrated the 50th anniversary of Cape Verdean independence from Portugal. I too had the opportunity to celebrate this by exhibiting my work in various places:
The New Bedford Whaling Museum in Boston, Centro Nacional de Arte, Artesanato e Design in Cape Verde and locally in Rotterdam, De Kunstfabriek.
Claridade: Cape Verdean Identity in Contemporary Art, 2025
"The New Bedford Whaling Museum presents the Contemporary Cape Verdean 2025 project,
which explores the Cape Verdean American and Cape Verdean experience through the lens of contemporary art and community storytelling.
The exhibition Claridade: Cape Verdean Identity in Contemporary Art, hosted in the Wattles Family Gallery, weaves together work by contemporary Cape Verdean and Cape Verdean American
visual artists and filmmakers.
The works reflect distinct personal experiences and visual identities of the different artists
while also exploring the role of visual art in shaping and affirming cultural identity."

CNAD, Cape Verde
The National Centre for Art, Crafts and Design (CNAD) offers a critical reflection
on the aesthetic processes that have shaped Cape Verdean identity since independence, at the Luísa Queirós and Bela Duarte Galleries.
Curated by César Schofield Cardoso, the exhibition brings together works by young Cape Verdean artists living in the country and in the diaspora, proposing a critical reflection on the ‘set of aesthetic operations’ that have shaped the nation's imagination over the 50 years of independence.
E ka so bo, E mi ku tudu também
"E ka so bo, E mi ku tudu também", is presented as a space within a space,
a space that reflects an ongoing research project. In this installation, I share fragments of my previous works that led me to undertake a research project on my perception of “Cape Verdean female identity”, a project that is partly carried out in collaboration with my mother, Genoveva Tavares Monteiro.
The research project aims to ask the question: ‘What kind of stories about Cape Verdean culture,
in particular stories about Cape Verdean female identity, do we want to pass on to the next generation?
"E ka so bo, E mi ku tudu também" is also a record of thoughts and questions in images,
words and sound.
Just as I collect my thoughts in my notebook, this installation is a reflection of that process.
