Panu xang e Panu bixu, 2016

These two works are part of the first phase of my ongoing project on symbolism and textiles, which started in 2015. The works are inspired by the traditional Cape Verde cloths I received from my mother, but which I lost.

In the work I investigate how textiles can become a bearer of memories.

Panu Xang shows my grandmothers abandoned house in black and white, symbolizing death, mourning and erased memories. The blue colour of Panu Bixu, which is in an unfinished state, stands here for loyalty and trust.
